Types of protection

Patent: In order for an invention to be patentable, it must be new, involve an inventive step, and be capable of industrial application. A patent in Sweden is valid for 20 years from the date of filing.1

Design Registration: Differing from a patent, a design registration protects a product's appearance, but not its function. A design registration is valid for a maximum of 25 years from the date of filing.2
